Equitable Digital Access
|
About digital equity...The use of technology in the classroom provides teachers and students a wealth of opportunities to extend learning and understanding in the classroom. While many students have these technologies in their homes and can benefit from their use, there are other students that do not have the opportunity to use technology outside of the classroom. This is one reason that it is vitally important for teachers to go to all measures possible in order to ensure equitable digital access in their classrooms. |

Ideas to Ensure Equitable Digital Access:
Ideas for scheduling equitable digital access:
· Create a schedule for students to use classroom computers, internet, iPads, etc… · Set a timer during use so that students know when to rotate to allow all students the opportunity to use the technology. · Create a rotation board using magnets or clothespins with students’ names and move student clips until all students have had time with the specific technology · Choose which students will use the technology by placing in alphabetical order, student numbers, groups, or any other method of grouping/organizing your students. |
Ideas to get all students involved in the use of technology:
· Assign Webquests as group projects to extend on a recent topic. · Allow students to use iPods to follow podcasts related to a specific topic or area of interest. · Require students to work in groups to create teaching videos using iPads or cameras. · Have students go on a scavenger hunt using digital cameras and then create a PowerPoint presentation to share their findings. · Encourage students to communicate with you and other students through email. · Create a class webpage and allow each student to contribute in some way throughout the year.
